What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is the variety of all living things and their interactions. Scientists often refer to three levels of diversity that cannot be separated which are: species, genetics ad ecosystem diversity.
Environment Act (Wales) 2016
Section 6 of the Environment Act places a duty on public authorities to “seek to maintain and enhance biodiversity” so far as it is consistent with the proper exercise of those functions. In doing so, public authorities must also seek to “promote the resilience of ecosystems”.
Gelligaer Community Council are certainly doing their bit by working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy to improve our environment and promote biodiversity.
Our Keep Wales Tidy Eco Officer Andrew King is working extremely hard with members and volunteers to deliver environmental projects within our communities.
